I recently attended an excellent Flint Knapping course run by Hands on Bushcraft and Karl Lee.
The day was very well structured starting with a safety briefing and camp orientation by Adam. The layout of the site in the beautiful deciduous woodland had separate areas for demonstrations, catering, latrines and a camp fire seating area covered by a huge parachute providing cover from the occasional showers.

Karl’s knowledge of flint knapping techniques was extensive and we covered such a lot in such a short time with practical hands on sessions applying the various techniques after each was expertly demonstrated.
It was amazing to watch a true craftsman at work as he selected and transformed a nodule of flint into scrappers, hand axes and arrows. His knowledge of the subject was fantastic and he really brought to life how our ancestors would have hunted, made and used the flint tools.

My fellow attendees were a friendly group of individuals eager to learn, try new things and share a laugh when things in practise did not go as simply as it appeared when demonstrated.
Yet Karl was always on hand and very patient helping you grasp the technique, select the right tool and apply the right technique to shape, form and refine what you were making.

The venue was very well laid out and the lunch and refreshments provided were scrumptious which made for an excellent day.
I came away with a scrapper and arrow heads but much more an appreciation of the skills and knowledge our ancestors had to use to survive.
I would certainly recommend “Hands on Bushcraft” to anyone who wants to learn new bushcraft skills and survival techniques with very friendly, knowledgeable staff in an a lovely woodland setting.
Thank you for a great day!
Yours truly a very satisfied customer
