Old news maybe but I've just noticed that Ray Mears is set to release his autobiography in September, coinciding with a brand new nationwide lecture tour. I see he's coming to my local theatre so I may just buy a ticket myself!

I'm sure it'll be a thoroughly interesting read...

PLEASE NOTE; THE FORUM IS NOW BACK UP AND RUNNING!

Hi everybody, as I'm sure you've probably noticed the forum has been down for some time now, we encountered a serious problem and are having difficulty restoring the forum to it's former state. Please be patient as it may take some time to get it sorted.  I will send out an email alerting you when we are back up and running but until then I'd ask you not to visit the forum url to avoid straining the server.

Thanks.

The British Government have approved plans to introduce badger culling in an effort to combat the spread of Bovine Tuberculosis. The proposal is for two pilot studies next year, followed by a wider rollout if successful. This is a difficult one. Badgers are protected animals under UK and EU law, but the government can approve culling to prevent disease. Bovine TB is a serious issue and reportedly costs the UK £100million a year, but a cull doesn't seem to me to be an effective policy. From what I've read there are serious concerns that badger culls could actually make the problem worse....

I thought I would take the time to talk a bit about what BCL has been getting up to lately and what we have planned for the rest of the year. On the bank holiday weekend in May myself and Jason Sears went along to represent BCL at the Bushcraft Magazine annual Mayday Meet. This is the second year in a row that I've attended and it is a fantastic weekend. It's particuarly suitable for young families, and the youngsters are what this weekend is all about really.

Maintenance of the main site just hasn't happened over the past year and for that I apologise. It's been a busy old 18 months and I just haven't had the time to maintain much of an online presence.  I am in the process of giving it a bit of a makeover, as well as adding loads of new content to the article sections.

I think to ensure I don't lapse again, and to act as a bit of a bushy outlet for myself, I will sort of adopt this news feed as something of a personal blog. Don't expect anything on the level of such noted bushcraft bloggers as the great Pablo or Fenlander, but I'll try to add something interesting every now and then.

I was recently contacted by a television company looking for young people aged 18-25 to take part in the next series of 'Shipwrecked' - the basic premise being a load of hot young twentsomethings get marooned on a desert island in the South Pacific and the ensuing err...events are filmed...don't know if any of you will be in the slightest bit interested, but it could be a fun opportunity for someone out there...anyway, they want you to email them at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
