I remember watching the film Alive about 40mins after getting off a plane. The crash scene was particularly terrifying as a part of me still felt i was flying whilst sat in the cinema...

Also.. There is a short story from Stephen Kings book 'Skeleton Crew' about a shipwrecked doctor trapped on a few rocks with nothing but a supply of water, a case of heroin and his surgical tools. Apparently Stephen King asked a load of 'experts' if it was possible to eat oneself and they said "Yes"... Providing the shock of what you were doing didn't make you pass out and bleed to death.

And so his story was born out of that possibillity.

Well whilst off his face on heroin he slowly cuts bits off and stiches himself up eating from his legs up... He keeps a diary the whole time and if my memory serves me correctly the book finishes with him just a torso and an arm...
