Question Hunting in other countries

I am from the USA, I have been crawling this forum for a while and just recently decided to join up. One thing I have noticed is that many in the British Isles are REALLY willing to jump all over road kill game, personally I wouldn't touch roadkill with a forty foot clown pole (besides the fact its illegal here "Nevada") but then again i get to fill my freezer almost every year with big game and some years multiple species,(as well as numerous small game species)I.E. this year I hunted antelope archery, elk, and mule deer with a rifle (unsuccessfully on the antelope) . so I was just curious what the hunting situation is like in the other countries out there , because some of my dreams are to go hunting in other countries (snipe, and ducks in Ireland) is it really that hard to go hunting ??

I have included pictures of just a small portion of the game I have taken this year, these don't include birds, which I hunt A LOT of.
as always if these pictures offend you CALL PETA because they dont offend me!!

P.s. you will have to excuse my friends and their snarky picture taking attitudes.

In the UK we do go hunting, but it is even more controlled than the USA. We have less space for the wildlife to hang out so less hunting grounds so less hunting... Hunting with dogs was banned a couple of years ago too, despite it being a tradition here (I was never for it btw) Rabbits are hunted as are deer, but its mainly control...Can't have them over the front of the Bentley you know...There are many anglers here, but its mainly sport rather than food provision. Nice trout you have there btw... Game shoots are popular here too, but its who you know and all that... Silverback on here is a good bloke to ask, he is a deer hunter, among other prey...

hi and welcome to the forum
looks like you have some good hunting over your end
over here in UK it is much different. to get a riffle you need permission from a land owner to shoot their land. which is the biggest problem as most of the land is already spoken for. also at the moment there are a few large syndicates going round buying all the shooting rights off the land owners. which means you have to join their syndicate
for big game ie deer you usually pay for a day's shoot which can be very expensive. you also have to have at least a DSC1 deer stalking certificate. if you don't have one of these! guess what you have to pay for someone to accompany you
wild fowling can be free in some places but they are not usually the best spots. again there are clubs which for a fee will take you out and show you the ropes. but they will not let you shoot on your own unless you can identify all the ducks and geese
so to sum up its pretty crap unless you are in the know and that takes a long time and a lot of money
hope i haven't put you off

Sorry Steve, should of mentioned you as well...
Hunting in the US isn't that easy, I went hunting in Montana a few years ago...We had to wear these florescent jackets so we didn't get shot ourselves , I was not even allowed to look at the gun, let alone touch it, we, sorry, the guy I tagged along with, was only allowed to shoot elk, and only one a day, or it may of been one a week. He had to apply for different licences for different quarry, so the long horn sheep were a no no as were the gazelle and grizzlies...I reckon hunting is regulated the world over nowadays...

Sounds weird doesn't it, going stalking in bright tops, but the prey are supposed to not see the colours or sommit like that...

Thumbs down Re: Hunting in other countries

most deer species cant see color so the bright colors will not spook them as long as your outline is broken up (thats whats important about camo) in Nevada in the US you are not required to wear orange (each state has its own rules) the way it works in Nevada, is in the spring you apply for the big game species you want to hunt they have a big drawing and in the summer you find out what species you drew. very few years have gone by without me drawing something, and as for small game you can hunt those all you want as long as you have purchased a license, also Nevada is about 75% public land so pretty much anywhere you go you don't have to ask permission to hunt.
you don't have to notify anyone your going and you can take whatever gun you want. (each state is different of course). so far it sounds like its quite the hassle to go hunting over there (my dream is to still go snype hunting in Ireland)so I hereby extend my invitation to anyone that has got the dough to come over here to the US, Northern Nevada I will take them hunting i will even supply the guns, ammo, and beer for afterwards, you can even hunt all varmints here without a license, so you dont even have to worry about that, or you can get an out of state hunting license and we can get something to eat!

oh and jonnyP I'm sorry to hear your trip was like that, it sounds like you were hunting with a guide, which in my opinion is not a fun way to hunt, or a cheap way to hunt VERY expensive, as for Montana it is a beautiful state and for residents they can just buy tags for their game over the counter, but that might not be the case for an out of country hunter
anyway if anyone decides to come to northern Nevada I will give them so much hunting, fishing, and Bushcraft it will boggle your mind all in an area you are literally hundreds of miles from civilization, for instance I can be hunting and shooting 3 minutes from my house and continue until I hit the next big town 250 miles away,(not sure what that is in kilometers) I would really love to show some of you Brits how much fun we have outdoors here(in Nevada anyway, I cant vouch for some of the other states in our country)
if you can fly into Las Vegas its about an 8 hour drive for me to get down there but i will even come get you if you supply me with gas money (which is cheaper here ,)
so hope to see ya

I was hunting with a friend of my parents, it was only for the day. The guy I went out with hunts for the pot but he still likes to get the trophy shot (think thats what he called it, the male elk with the antlers to hang up) and will only take a cow if he can't get the bull. I had a great time out there in the foothills of the rockies, we never got a bull, but after matey blew into this pipe thing and made an elk noise, we hid up and watched a whole family (minus the bull) walked past us within feet of us...
You guys certainly enjoy your great outdoors. We do too, but we can't spread out like you can...

i have heard all this before but i am sorry i just don't believe it. even if an animal does only see in black and white.
there will still be shades of grey remember the olden days of tv
and what about reflective strips they must stand out like a sore thumb. i was out shooting with a mate of mine once and he was wearing his new boots. neither of us noticed reflective pieces on his boots until i took a photo of him later. no wonder we didn't catch much

anyway sounds like you have it made over there i envy you
it is also very kind of you for the offer. maybe sometime in the distant future we will take you up on your offer

its true i swear, I often hunt in flannel only, which is often reds, blues and greens, and i do just as well because my outline is broken up by the flannel pattern, that is not true for all animals though, IE coyotes when i hunt them I get in camo from head to toe, mask and everything is necessary, those coyotes can spot anything! really fun to hunt very challenging.

oh and jonnyp Im glad you enjoyed your elk hunt here I think elk are the most majestic critter there is, they are really awesome and HUGE, my elk hunt was really great probably the best time I have ever had.
