Default A week in the wilderness - Pic Heavy

First off, many thanks to Alex for organising and supplying the staples for the whole week.

Thanks also to all those who took part or turned up with moral support or goodies.

I arrived early and set up in glorious sunshine:

Whilst waiting for the official start I did some last minute revision and calorie intake

With the landowners permission snares were set for all things furry:

To start us off for the first night; Alex supplied us with 3 rabbits he'd despatched previously:

add some carrots and spuds:

The addition of vegetable suet dumpling was fantastic, Alex is a genius:

We were stuffed, but there is always room for blackcurrant pud again made with the suet:

Someone was extremely happy:

With everyone arrived by the weekend, foraging walks were taken daily; roaming all points of the compass, checking snares and looking for edibles:

Snares checked on day 2 and 3, no captures but evidence of push pasts or overs, so resets and additional set out on new laid runs.

Alex had a couple of additional books to read apart from the Food for Free:

Not one shroom was seen the whole week. :(

Wood was prepped for the fire:

and wild horseradish was found, prepped and grated:

and burdock peeled and roasted:

water mint was cut crushed and a brew was had:

The hunting gods must of been with us:

Night time activity netted us another dinner:

and daybreak saw a surprise snared in a rabbit run:

Sal turned up, bearing gifts - foraged of course:

which were added to the rabbit and pheasant stew:

The final event of the week was making shelters:

Points to note:

Do as much heavy work as you can the first day - wood prep done whilst we were still full of food was easier.

Snares - think of a number between 20 and 30 and double it - it'll give you a better chance if you have no rifle.

Wild food - a week here or there means eating like gods on ripe fruit and veg or dying for a kebab.

Most of all - get out and have some fun.

Many thanks once again to all involved
