Default Some birch products

We had a large birch tree uprooted by the strong winds we had a week ago.

Was a lovely tree so spent the evening removing the bark, cross-cutting it into sections and splitting it into usable blanks.

So far I've made a couple of items from it, and there are a few more on their way.

Plaited/woven bark basket:

Dough bowl, approx 16"x 7"

Hey Lures, the plain weave baskets are really simple. I keep mean on doing a photo tutorial on them. Both the above books covers them in very good detail though.

More stuff to come. Started another container today and will be cutting a branch section at the weekend for a ladle if I find time between lectures.

Thanks Jon. It was hollowed primarily using a small gutter adze and then the finer shaping and removal was completed using a large diameter crook knife. Both tools were made by Ben Orford.
