Default Lost Gear.

I was thinking the other day while out,i travel around with my pack on my back my gear in my pockets and belt poss pouch,i thought about what was in my poss pouch and i thought why am i carrying one?most of the stuff i need could be put in my bergan (back pack). Then i thought oh yes i carry gear on my belt in case i lose my pack and have to survive in the woods which is at least three miles away from civilization. Then i thought what situation ie trip would we truly need to survive on what is in our pockets and belts? military not included.
my top answer would be canoeing a high risk of kit separation.Any offers?????
