Default Setting up a basha/tarp

This is a draft of an article I'm thinking of putting on the main site. Tell me what you think and if you like, share your own way of setting up a basha or tarp.

-----

This article is written assuming you are outdoors with your basha and paracord and want to set it up.

First, locate 2 opposite trees, make sure they are the right distance apart for the amount of cord you have. Lay out your basha sheet and thread the longer ridge line through the loops running across the middle. Fold the sheet in half so the ridgeline is facing up. Tie one end to a tree using the Evenk Reindeer herders knot. Now pull the other end of the line as tight as you can and wrap it around the other tree, then tie it off by going under the ridgeline and back through over the top the loop you created. Pull tight.

Now, tie the guy lines to each corner of the basha. Wrap the loose end halfway around your thigh and do the Prusik knot and tie off. You should now be able to move the knot up and down the line creating a smaller/bigger loop to be placed over a wooden peg. Do this for each guyline.

Now take 2 smaller pieces of paracord, about 12 inches will do. Bend one piece in half and tie the Prusik knot after the last loop on the basha ridgeline. Then, tie the ends together just inside that last loop. Do the same to the loop at the other end. You should now be able to pull your Basha taut.

Hopefully, you've managed to now successfully set up your basha!

------

I'm sure other people could have explained it alot better, there are alot more articulate people out there. But what do you think anyway?

I've seen the Alpha tent one before but has any one actually tried it?

It does appear to be very low, probably just high enough to curl up under. It looks ok for an "emergency" but appears a bit cramped for longer use.

>> Evenk Reindeer herders knot

Is that the one Mr Mears was shown on the Programme he did in Siberia???

Got any Pictures how to do it??????/

I use a length of paracord with 3 or 4 prussik knots on it to tension the tarp, then I have some spars loops to hang stuff on, and i can slide them to where I want them.
Just buy half a dozen of those cheap Karabiners (the ones without the locking pin, stamped "not for climbing") to attach the tarp to the knots.

I haven't seen that episode but I imagine it is as the Evenk Reindeer Herders Knot/ Evenk Overhand Hitch is used by the nomadic reindeer-herders in Siberia as a quick release knot.

I don't have any pics but there are in the book "Bushcraft" by Ray Mears if you have it. You can try searching google, you'll probably get a hit from something on BCUK or other bushcraft site.
