Army Rations FTW! Especially the British ones with the different menus.

But I would also add Pemmican and BP-5 Emergency Ration Pack.

Portion of chips.....and a pie or two........chinese meal, mmmm you cant beat a chinese in the woods. Wrap him in foil and bung the fu***r in the embers for a bit.....fantastic. Errrr what exactly did you mean by light

Tuna and salmon in foil pouches are available in stores now. Well, in the U.S. anyway. Light weight, very compact. Peanut butter is also great for being high calorie for its weight as well as compact. No cooking necessary! My typical light weight meals are dried jerky, cheddar, crackers, and hard salami. I'm going to try cooking chili over a fire next time I'm backpacking using dried beans, beef jerky for meat, and probably some rice. I'll let you know how it goes.
