I ordered a hammock from DD hammock last week. I got it yesterday afternoon (great shipping, it got mailed the same day). I was all excited! As it was too late last night to go out & try it, I waitied until today.
Well, I decided as it was 40 degrees out, & we are expecting snow tomorrow, I'd go & set this thing up. So, I pack that, my tarp, a sleeping bag, & a mat, in expectation of trying it out.
I go to my local woods, start walking, looking for a good site. Found a PERFECT one. Set the tarp up, no issues. Set the hammock up, easy as pie. Tie up the mosquito netting, no problem. Open it up to get in; the stitching where the mosquito netting, top layer of nylon & bottom layer of nylon has completely separated. I hadnt even climbed into it yet, and the hammock failed. Needless to say, I was disappointed. I sent them an email regarding this, & am currently awaiting a reply. I am goingt to return it to them, and go with another company. Looking at the stitching, I have my doubts that, even HAD it not been ripped before I get into it, it may have failed with me in it. Fortunately, this was its trial run, & I wasnt on a planned excursion.
So, I came home & ordered a Hennessy hammock. Hopefully, I'll have better results.
You can't go wrong with a henessy mate, I've heard a lot of mixed thoughs about the DD hammock.
We looked at the DD Hammocks and found much the same:icon_frow so I dont think yours was a one off, better off with the Hennessy:)

Well, I have been in contact with them, and am awaiting an answer. Upon further inspection, it seems that quality control missed this one. One of the sheets of nylon was missed by the sewing maching for about 1 foot. See the pic below:

That gap, should not be there. DD has responded to me, and I am awaiting a response to the email I sent with this pic. They have been great customer service wise; my only gripe is simply quality control. I dont like trashing folks at all, I rather frown on it, and that is not my intent here. I am merely pointing out the issue with the missed stitching, and the fact that I missed a good nap next to a beaver pond this afternoon, in 45 degree weather, with a nice covering of snow ;)
That surpizes me with your hammock. the first hammock i got was a DD, it must of been back when they first started out. Never had any problems with it, appart from my own lack of balance and the fact that i like to move alot in my sleep, which has ended up with me on the ground with a thud.:censored:
Anyway don't use it as much now, tend to use my henessy more, but it still comes to life once in a while.
Well take it as learning curve and don't let it put you off.

Well, they refunded my money, & told me to keep the hammock. I have to say, their customer service is great, too bad about their QC. If they fix that, I'd recommend them again. Now, all I have to do is find someone that fixes tents & the like locally, and get it sewn up!

Hi!
Just popped in to your thread and sorry to hear about the DD. For Christmas I was bought a Hennesey - How awesome is it!! Been out during the day twice to dry run it with great results (dozed off one avo!).
Once you've tested it - you can (as I have), set it up in litterally 5 mins, with some tweaking to be done afterwards.
The snake skins make it all so easy. You're welcome to send a PM for my tips (i'm no expert though).
I figure it IS almost like camping in the tree's but if it's a backup or if it makes it easier to explore our beautiful plannet - it's only a good thing in my humble opinion. Best of luck with it!

I have been in two group buys for DD hammocks and as far as im aware I may be wrong but I have not heard very many negative comments that said I've seen the Hennesy setup and that is in a different league

DD have definately got themselves sorted out now. I've yet to see a bad review of them since they change manufacturers.
HH are okay, but after 2 years of using one I went back to a traditional top entry hammock.

There was a problem over a year ago, Which is , coincidently, how old the original post is!!
I know this is an old thread but the new DD hammocks are very good now. Double layer of waterproof material on the bottom and pockets inside the hammock. The insect netting is much finer and the stitching has certainly improved. Having said all that, I normally go out with the Scout (short a*rse no frills version)
I'm a big fan. Nice people too.
Id like to try one of these, i had one of the first ones to make comment on and it was poop the consept was there but the quality was real naff, if they have progressed id love to see for sure!
I have the scout DD hammock, I got it in the summer and have no issues with it, i did go out and get some different tapes to hang it with though but apart from that it has had me and my kit in it and it hasnt let me down. seems good quality to me tbh
the tapes on my prototype one went to a birds nest im wich was a disaster.
They are definitely a lot better now
I have a HH for myself and two DD's for the kids. Love the HH, it's way more comfy than the DD's, but they are still better than floor dwelling!

Had a HH but nowe have a Mosquito Hammock  would highly recommend.
I have the DD camping hammock and would'nt swap it for the world, Ive had it for some time now and when you consider the price of the thing it is just brilliant. I'm 5' 10" and around 20 st and it takes my weight with never a problem it'll be one of my favourite bits o kit. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

I have the camping hammock myself. I bought the mozzie not seperately as they were having issues at the time with suppliers but the hammock itself does what it says on the tin.
I will say though that DD hammocks were one of the best suppliers I have ever dealt with for customer service and prompt delivery to Ireland.
No connection etc etc
