Sorry to put this on you all but I need a hand.
I've just started dating a girl and can't think of what to get her for Christmas.
The only idea I've had so far is a knife. The only camping she's done so far is in a tent on a campsite, so I don't know if she'll ever get into my passion.
I've been married before and know that women can take an honest thought the wrong way. (Okay so can us blokes.)
She like the country but grown up in city's. So my thought was I can stop her using my knife and give her something out of the ordinary.
I don't want to get her some thing I'm not sure about,
So what should I do??
Cheers OutBack P
Please help I'm
Outback P depends on how much you wish to pay,but how about a W/e bushcraft course or similar. My personnel view is to get her interested in bushcraft, before making purchases she may not really appreciate,no matter how good your intentions.
Does she have other interests that may gel with bushcraft?
Phil
I agree with Phil a bushcraft course would be a much safer option until you get to know her better .
I gave my wife an iron for christmas one year because she had been moaning about the old one for months , big mistake she went ballistic.=; :icon_frow :icon_frow =;
A bushcraft course is a great idea. However a weekend might be a throwing her into the deep end. Maybe a day course would be a good start. Something to stimulate her interest without a risk she may not like it.
A small Gene Ingram knife might go down well too. He makes very nice knife for small hands that are not too threatening.
Another possibilty would be a day with Marcus at the Wild Food School. He is a very knowledgable and friendly chap.
Seeing as your in Bridport an event with HFW might be good fun.
I take it that your confident that she would like to recieve a bushcrafty present and not a new handbag/pair of shoes (delete as appropriate) :-p
I think the fact that you feel you want to share your passion with her at all really says something, so I feel you should stick with your feelings. A small knife and/or a bushcraft day course sounds ideal, especially if you couple it up soon after with a trip away with just hte two of you.
Be safe and get the hand bag and shoes option .
Once she see's what you get up to invite her on a trip to make sure she likes Bushcraft and then for a surprise early next year get a course booked .

play safe
take her to the gathering next year.
as for a prezzie thats up to you.
what you could do is give her a book and show her what you know from it be if friction fire
good luck buddy
Outback been thinking about this some more, get her something she will enjoy and that shows your regard for her, such as perfume, etc
You can always introduce her to bushcraft in the new year.
Phil
Buy her a we-no-na Prospector a bit extravagant but if things don't work out at least you've got a canoe.
No seriously I'd go for jewelry always seems to work with city girls and I would supplement it with a hand carved kuksa, spoon, or the like and personalise it, you can then use it to gently enter her into outdoor living by saying so when are we going to try out your new ? that I carved for you.Mike B...

Thanks everyone for your help. No it wasn't a shewee, but it would have been funny to see her face.
I ended up getting her a knife, I was still worried right up untill she opened it. But she loved it. We even used it to cut up the veg on christmas day. The only good knife in the house we stayed at.
Unfortunatly it didn't work out between us. Which I'm a bit cut up about. (scuse the pun)
So thanks everyone for your idea's and help :You_Rock_Emoticon:
Flip sorry about that but will we see a second hand knife for sale on here any time soon !
