They look a bit like the ones you get on beech, but in miniature. I think its a type like
fomes fomentarius, but im sure somebody on here would know better..

I'm new to this bit... Thanks for that though :)
Would that be like a horses hoof fungus then with similar uses?

Yeah, it has a trama layer that you can turn into amadou for firelighting :) Its brill stuff cos it catches the slightest spark and smoulders slowly...

Thank you kindly Sir...
Cheers for that. Are the fungi in the first picture the same; just at an early stage?

I think they're the same, like you say, at different stages.

Thanks again. At that stage then, would you be able to use it the same; or keep it in mind for use at a later date because it's not 'matured' as yet?
Hope you don't mind the questions...
Also hope as a fellow cider swiller you've got one on the go!
Thank you.

Life just aint right without cider

You can keep it for use later, just needs to be dried out properly. Generally though, the bigger the fungus the more tinder you get from it. These ones could be used for firelighting, but its better to go for the bigger ones...

TMKTC is right it is Phellinus pomaceus

It is specialist on prunus. Addo IDed a simerlar thing a few months ago on the other channel. I am pretty rubbish at IDing polypores. You could try using it as tinder, it is a tree pathogen.

Its the first time i've seen anything like that on prunus round here so its good to know whats its about. I'll go back and get one of them and tryout for tinder :)
