well heres my attempt.take one birch log

cut to rough size.

after drying.... more carving and sanding.

The finish,oiled with ground nut oil.

yes i love the birch i think its got better pattern than the curly birch...
I really like that, lovely effect in the birch too.

approx how old was the wood from the tree - chopped green off the tree, dead hanging wood, found on ground, covered in moss? etc...
never thought about making a cup! should i do some work or....

i dont know how old the log was,i found it,and carried it home one day,it spent a while outside,i started using it for different things,but in my mind i could see the cup.it was actually a section of log,so i had to split this first,that was hard work.but what fasinates is what you can achieve from just an old log...:wink:
