Me Daffs are out and the sodding grass is going to need a cut at the weekend :frown: Time to get the Tortoise out of the fridge (no I'm not joking :))
Noticed a sow 'black and white' had excavated her sett and a tell tale drag trail indicated she had rebedded so if true to form about another four weeks and some little two tone terrors will be poking their noses out in the open
My favourite time of year... :) Its all well under way here..

I also have a couple of Royal Pythons and a couple of Sinloan Milks. Used to have a big old Savannah Monitor but he sadly died last year :frown:. I would like to get another tortie at some point. I have a mate who works at Whipsnade who has about 40 :o. Good luck with the Sulcata they are like tanks and strong as oxes :)

Hawthorn leaves are starting to appear, nice and tender lucious green!

We've a garden full of spring flowers and the when you stop still and listen the birdsong is awsome.
Roger
We have about 50 weeping willow trees around my work site they are all budding up nicely awesome sight when they are all in leaf..
the foxes are err screeching
One thing I've noticed, no matter what time of night I go to bed the foxes round here know it and lay in wait until I'm just on the verge of dreamland before they start with their infernal racket  It'll be the cubs next
As for sping - It raining here so, yep! must be spring
I love spring :)
Ramsons are well under way, coockoo pint, ealry purple orchid, young hawthorn leaves out already, lime buds are getting sticky and starting to burst, Foxes howling.
I have tried a few birch but the sap is only just starting on the ones i have tried.
Also found some oyster mushrooms, although they grow all year it was nice :)

Agree great time of the year. The ramsons are well out birds a singing not seen the early purple orchid yet as mentioned saw the pignuts with falcon....and err a tip off of a massive patch of morel !!! Not telling you the location mind! Just hoping the peregrine will show up again and nest, not here yet Stu been back a couple of times.
Dave
Edit Stu just had a listen on the rspb site and I am pretty sure I saw a peregrine at the other site you told me about, I wasn't sure but listening to the sound bite sounds like one. I am of course presuming that it doesn't sound exactly like other birds?!
Uprooted a few ramsons today to see how they are in the new patch I've discovered, they are massive! Much bigger than where I got them from in previous years! In fact, finding that little patch of ground next to the stream was great, I spent a few hours there today and saw nobody, all within a ten minute walk of home. It wasn't until I was just about to hit the main road back home that I saw somebody walking on the trail. A new place to sit and while away the hours whilst listening to some mental frog that I couldn't see!
It's a crackin time of year, Isn't it, even my spuds are starting to sprout.

Heard and saw my first Cuckoo this week, two males flying together.
Saw my first wasp of the year, seen plenty of bees but not wasps. I don't like wasps much, and we get loads of them at home. Better get the cup and paper ready for another few months of ushering the buggers out of the house!
