Eldest came home from school last week with a book he borrowed from the school library, this one to be precise:

http://www.clarebooks.co.uk/usrimage/camping.jpg

Tbh it's not a bad read and he has really gotten into it, as did i , lots and lots of information, from basic map reading to camp cooking, basic 1st aid etc, but being a school libray book he has to give back, so i did a google search for it to see how much i could pick up a copy for, i was expecting £10.00 to £20.00, in the end i got a brand new copy of the book from Amazon, for the grand price of one pence :o + P&P of £2.75, http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1844774260

Might be a good buy for those on here with kids who like both the outdoors and reading about it.

I got my sister that same book for crimbo. Just getting my own back as she got me a book on camping last year. Looks a decent read when i flicked through it before i bought it.

Bloody hell! my old OC Hugh McManners wrote a few books on the subject a while back that were pretty good for younger people, all basic stuff but well written and diagrammed.

I have one of his books (didn't know they were meant for kids lol :biggrin:)

It's his survival one, read it a few times and lots of handy info. Like you say well presented too, good read :)

What's an OC btw (army term I'm guessing?)
