I came here a few weeks ago via a link that I can no longer remember, but thought it was more interesting than the other site I used to spend time at.

I'm interested in travelling light by bicycle and understanding what is around me. My load is down to 17kg including the bags and I hope to shave off another kilo.
My particuar interest is history and man's interaction with the landscape. I am particularly focussed in that area on the Bronze Age and Iron Age and more especially the Roman Army in Britain.

I like simple food and am learning about the wayside plants. I have used road kill in the past but don't bother with meat anymore, except cabanos, because I would rather not cook.

I think that is about it besides being a sometime sailing canoeist, but I prefer the bike because it is easier to change your mind about your route as you go along.

Pet hate is needing so many OS maps, but I appreciate the historical detail on them.
I am English and next week start my last year of work :0)

Thanks for that. I wasn't aware of Singleton.
I'll be cycling down to my parents near Sandwich sometime, I'll have to see if I can it it into the route.

My first YH night was in Sussex - Blackboys I think it was called - back in 1962, and I toured the Forts of the Saxon Shore back in the '80's from Anderitum to Regulbium

Sorry Billy, my mistake, singleton is the weald and downland open air museam (also worth a visit). Roman villa I was thinking of is near chichester and called fishbourne http://www.sussexpast.co.uk/property/site.php?site_id=11 There certainly is a youth hostel in blackboys, I have stayed there too...
