Cooking
Cooking is a very important skill to master, after all a lousy meal is not much of a morale boost. There are many methods of cooking outdoors from simple boiling to cooking on hot rocks, steaming and even cooking under mud.
Be adventerous when cooking and use fresh and healthy ingredients to ensure a successful and creative meal.
Cooking in Mud:
1. Build a fire and wait till it has burned down to a deep bed of embers.
2. Wrap your meal into a package with large green leaves or fronds etc. (Make sure they are non-toxic)
3. Cover in about 3cm of mud and make sure nothing is showing through.
4. Leave until cooked!
Steam Pit:
1. Dig a pit that is deep enough for the food you're going to be cooking.
2. Place a layer of sticks above the pit and build a fire on top of it with rocks suitable to be heated (don't use rocks that have been submerged in/found near water or flint rock, heating them could cause them to explode).
3. When the fire has burned down to embers and the rocks are hot insert a stick into the centre of the pit.
4. Put in bundles of food wrapped in leaves and cover with plenty of grasses and soil making it airtight.
5. Pull out the stick and pour in water to create steam, seal of the hole and leave to cook.
Cooking with Hot Rocks:
1. Build a fire over a layer of large flat stones.
2. When it's burnt down to embers brush them away (you can see whether the rocks are hot enough by flicking some fluid onto the rock and seeing if it sizzles, saliva is handy here)
3. Place the food directly onto the hot rocks and leave until it has cooked.
Note: Do not use flint like rocks or ones that have been submerged in water as heat could cause them to explode.
